The Estigma formed in Santa Fe, Argentina in 2003 out of the hardcore punk group Última Advertencia, and their self-titled debut full-length the same year reached Europe through international distribution. Their 2007 album Los Sicarios del Negocio was produced by Flavio Cianciarulo of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, a notable crossover between Argentina's punk/metal underground and its mainstream rock world. The band returned in 2023 with the EP Si Vis Pacem…, their first new studio material in six years.

The band released their self-titled debut album in September 2015, drawing on the heavy, slow sounds of Electric Wizard, Cathedral, and Reverend Bizarre. Horror film imagery runs throughout their work, with song titles and artwork referencing classic genre films.

Their debut album I Spit on Your God, a 31-track, 29-minute record, was recorded at GrindHouse Studio in 2016 and released in 2017 on Rip Roaring Shit Storm Records as a cassette limited to 50 copies. The band also released the 7" EP Romantic Baphomet in 2016, hand-numbered and limited to 66 copies.
