Barbatos were a brutal death metal band from Jandira, a city in the greater São Paulo metropolitan area, founded by drummer Chicão and guitarist Antônio Agaci with a focus on fast, punishing music in the tradition of Brazilian brutal death. The band released a self-titled CD of eight tracks before going inactive. Their name was drawn from demonic mythology — Barbatos being one of the demons said to serve Satanquia and Lucifer — in keeping with brutal death metal's genre aesthetics.

Described as eight sludgy stoner doom rippers packed with hallucinogenic heaviness, the album drew comparisons to Down, Red Fang, and Mastodon, placing the band among Rio's more prominent underground stoner acts. The five-piece features Alexandre "Beef" Barbosa on vocals alongside Eduardo Sodré and Gabriel Zander on guitars.

Barks of Apocalypse was an experimental death metal/grindcore one-man project from Catanduva, São Paulo, active 2021–2023. Created by Billy Grind — who also runs the underground label Podreira Records — the project replaced human vocals with the recorded barks of his three dogs, directly inspired by the US band Caninus; the 2021 full-length Canis Lupus Familiaris combined grinding death metal riffwork with this canine-vocal concept.
