Orbital Cut hails from Itajubá, a university town tucked into the mountainous south of Minas Gerais, the same Brazilian state that birthed Sepultura and Sarcófago and that has long nurtured a quietly potent extreme-metal underground far from the spotlight of São Paulo and Rio. While Minas is best known abroad for its thrash and black metal pioneers, it also harbors a rich seam of doom and death-doom acts, from melancholic one-man projects to seasoned doom institutions, and Orbital Cut plants itself firmly in that lineage. The band trades in doom/death metal, that grief-stricken hybrid where the crushing slowness of doom meets the guttural weight of death metal, a style with deep roots in the genre's European architects but one that Brazilian bands have made distinctly their own, channeling the heat, decay, and existential heaviness of their surroundings into something dense and mournful.
