Mørtvs

Mørtvs emerged from Recife, the coastal capital of Pernambuco, into one of the most storied bestial black/death scenes in all of South America. The northeastern Brazilian underground — anchored by Recife, neighboring Olinda, and the surrounding Salgado region — produced Mystifier in the 1980s and has spent the four decades since cultivating a remarkably dense network of war-metal, occult black, and primitive death projects, sustained by a handful of obsessive labels, illegal rehearsal spaces, and a generational appetite for genuinely extreme music that has never softened. Mørtvs are very much a product of that lineage. Releasing their full-length Anti-Peace Death Kvlt in 2023, the band trade in the thelemic, Luciferian, and anti-Christian thematic territory that has defined Pernambucano extremity since Mystifier's earliest tapes, paired with the kind of frenzied, chaos-drenched playing that draws bestial black/death adherents in the first place — blast-heavy drums, riffs that prioritize ferocity over melody, vocals shifting between a black-metal shriek and a death-metal growl. Signed to the Brazilian underground label Cianeto Discos, they sit alongside a roster of like-minded northeastern and Brazilian acts whose work bypasses streaming-era niceties entirely. To understand Mørtvs is to understand Recife: a city where the war-metal flame has been kept burning by successive generations of musicians treating extremity not as aesthetic but as obligation, and where bands like this one are not anomalies but the logical extension of a regional tradition.
