Formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1989 by Beelzeebubth, Lucifuge Rofocale, Behemoth, and Meugninousouan, Mystifier are one of the foundational names in the Brazilian extreme underground, blending primitive black metal brutality with a dark, ceremonial atmosphere and restrained synth use. Their run of records — Wicca (1992), Göetia (1993), The World Is So Good That Who Made It Does Not Live Here (1996), and Profanus (2001) — established them as the most significant black metal band from the northeast of the country.
Mórbida Exhumación is a death metal band from Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego — one of the southernmost active metal acts in the world. The band released the EP Liberando el Dolor in 2020, followed by the full-length Alteracion Morbosa de la Personalidad in October 2021, a ten-track record with lyrics drawing on horror and gore themes.
A raw black metal cult drawing directly from the second wave Scandinavian tradition, Mørkalv features members with roots in other extreme underground acts including Necroholocaust and Blood Sorcery. Their 2023 debut album "An Ancient Cult to the Aesir" delivers eight tracks built on Nordic themes, cold-blooded riffs, and an organic, deliberately rudimentary production that suits the band's uncompromising aesthetic.
Nameless Gods traffic in doom-death metal built around the contrast between crushing slowness and the aggressive attack of vocalist Malu Sales, whose background includes former São Paulo outfit Sophie's Threat. Their 2024 debut, And That Sigil Meant Death, leans heavily on cosmic horror and occult imagery across seven tracks, with dual guitars from Damien Mendonça and Isabela Ishibashi carving out a sound that prioritizes atmosphere and weight over technicality.
Nastik is a death/thrash metal band from Quilicura, Chile, playing a groove-heavy style they label brutal groove death metal. The band released two albums simultaneously in July 2018 — Human Sacrifice, built around fictional narratives of lost civilizations and ritual sacrifice, and GNOSTIC, exploring ancient mythology and esoteric philosophy through tracks referencing Egyptian and indigenous traditions. Both records are self-released digital albums available on the band's Bandcamp page.
Formed in 1988 by Skull Detonator, Sathan, and Kranium, Necrobutcher played a ferocious blend of death metal and grindcore where most tracks barely broke the one-minute mark. Their two 1989 demos, "Schizophrenic Christianity" and "Corrosive Noisy Torment," were later compiled by Nuclear War Now! Productions on the anthology "Schizophrenic Noisy Torment," preserving all 44 tracks of their brief but savage output.
Necrocadaveric Vomit is a death-grind band from Paraná, Entre Ríos, Argentina, formed around 2010 with a lineup including vocalist Joel Tutau, guitarist Santiago Pontoni, bassist Ariel Reyes, and drummer Mathías Chamorro. The band recorded their first demo, Putrid Flesh, in 2011 before releasing their self-titled full-length album in October 2015, a blistering 11-track set of pure deathgrind.
Necrodead was a death/thrash metal band from Santiago, Chile, active from 1989 until their split in 2010. The band recorded their debut full-length Frustrated Message in mid-1994 at El Rancho Studios, collecting material written across the band's first five years, and returned over a decade later with the thrash-leaning Path to Death in 2007 on Stigma Records. Their lineup across that run included Michel Garrido on vocals and guitar alongside Javier Torres on drums, Richard Ayala on guitar, and Cristian Kohl on bass.
Rooted in the Santos metal underground, Necrodulia plays old-school black/death metal in the vein of Blasphemy, Mystifier, and Beherit. The band features a tight-knit lineup including guitarist Ailton "Tita" Silva, drummer Ezequiel Fidalgo, bassist Ludmilla Carvalho, and vocalist Rodrigo Silva, drawing from the Baixada Santista scene's long extreme metal tradition.
