M26 is an atmospheric doom/death metal band from Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, formed in 2021. The band incorporates female vocals into their heavy, melancholic sound, and released their debut album "Misantropia" in February 2021 through Bandcamp.
Rooted in the fertile death metal underground of Porto Alegre, Malediction formed in the early 1990s when that city's scene was producing some of the continent's most intense extreme metal. Their output reflects the old-school brutality and direct aggression that defined Brazilian death metal in that era before the band eventually dissolved.
Malevolente is a one-man extreme metal project from Bogotá, Colombia, founded in 2021. Operating as an independent solo effort, the project draws on a wide range of metal subgenres with the goal of crafting a distinctive musical identity, releasing a series of Spanish-language singles and EPs including the seven-deadly-sins-themed Mater series and the 2026 release Anhelo.
A death/grind outfit born out of a desire to fuse the visceral chaos of grindcore with the heaviness of old-school death metal, Malicious Intent released their debut album "Under the Shine of the Ripping Sickle" in 2018, a misanthropic slab recorded in Brasília and mixed in São Paulo. The record channels the ruthless energy of early genre progenitors through 13 tracks of punishing, socially contemptuous extreme metal.
Malignant Excremental deliver gore-soaked death metal out of Cuiabá with clear debts to Autopsy and Necrony, reveling in slow-churning, putrid riff work alongside bursts of brutal speed. Their 2022 debut full-length "Descrição Explícita e Brutal da Face da Morte," released through Rotten Foetus Records, established them as one of the more authentically fetid death metal acts to emerge from the Midwest region of Brazil.
Taking their name from the infamous 15th-century witch-hunting manual, this Belo Horizonte outfit channels the sinister crossroads between black and death metal with a sound rooted in darkness, blasphemy, and extreme aggression. Operating from one of Brazil's most historically fertile metal cities, Malleus Maleficarum carry forward the traditions of the Minas Gerais extreme underground.
A death metal band from the Tapanã neighborhood who announced themselves with a self-titled EP in 2020, Mandíbula deals in themes of horror, chaos, and human brutality with their sound landing firmly in the old-school tradition. Both 'Self Devourment' and 'Hecatombe Vitae,' released in quick succession in 2024, expanded on that foundation with a focus on psychological as well as physical violence.
Manthra was a thrash/death metal band from Antofagasta, Chile, active from 2001 until their split in 2015. During their run they released two promo CD-Rs — El final (2003) and Inquisición (2004) — and later continued under the name Dark Manthra to distinguish themselves from an older Colombian band named Mantra.
Mar de Grises was formed in Santiago, Chile in 2000, developing a death/doom sound that incorporated post-rock, ambient, and progressive elements into their dense compositional framework. Their debut The Tatterdemalion Express (2004) established them as a significant voice in South American doom, followed by Draining the Waterheart (2008) and Streams Inwards (2010), the latter named the top doom metal album of 2010 by Metal Storm's user base. The band dissolved in 2013 but announced a reunion in 2024, their catalog standing as one of the most ambitious in Latin American extreme metal.
