Atrymo is a death and black metal band from João Pessoa, Paraíba, formed in 2017 by members with roots in prior extreme metal projects. The four-piece — featuring Aracélio on drums and vocals, Ivan on bass and vocals, Ivaldo and Bruno on guitars — channels themes of human hatred, greed, and spiritual corruption through tracks like "Sentidos Infames," "Miséria e Ódio," and "Depressão," with lyrics sung in Portuguese.

Aume is an atmospheric folk black metal project from Vicuña in Chile's Coquimbo region, created and performed entirely by Averso Yekamush. The project weaves Andean folk traditions into a black metal framework, and their 2020 debut album Fulgor Renegrido — a nine-track record described as a pilgrimage through Chilean earthly and mythological imagery — received a limited cassette release through Ancient Entity Records in the UK.

Austral is a black metal band from Santiago, Chile, formed in 2018, whose lineup features vocalist Matías Briones (aka Zaitham Iscariote), guitarists Blackterium and Maleficarvm, bassist Terrorwielder, and drummer Invokker. The band released their debut full-length, the sprawlingly titled Pestilential Souls Falling into the Endless Vortex of Misery, in 2018, drawing on themes of mysticism and spiritual corruption.

Australes Tenebris was a black metal band from Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil active between 2013 and 2017, whose name evokes the southern darkness of their home region. They released a demo — "Quando Uiva o Minuano" (named after the cold pampas wind) — and the full-length "Reflections of a Decadent Life" (Sunset Light Records), exploring themes of philosophy, misanthropy, madness, and decay before dissolving in 2017.

Autism Forest is a one-person black metal and dungeon synth project from Buenos Aires, Argentina, created by the musician known as Avgrund. The project is prolific in releasing lo-fi atmospheric material, with titles including Arcane Nature, Thalassophobia, and the Dreams of Pelpiland series, as well as the 2025 EP Doppelganger.

Autofobia was a black metal band from Ancud, in the Los Lagos region of southern Chile, active and split-up in 2012. During their brief existence they released two recordings — the EP Misantropía and a self-titled demo — both exploring themes of misanthropy, depression, and anti-Christianity.

Avernus was a black metal band from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, active from 1993 until their split. Emerging from the same fertile underground that produced Sarcófago and Sepultura, the band operated in the raw, uncompromising vein of Brazilian black metal during the 1990s, contributing to one of South America's most distinctive extreme metal scenes.

Avolia is a black metal act from Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil, formed in 2025. Their debut album Falls Upon the Earth, released in January 2025, delivers atmospheric and misanthropic black metal built around themes of apocalypse, esoteric mythology, and existential collapse — referencing Hyperborean imagery alongside relentless nihilism. A second album, Vazio, Mórbido, Sem Vida, followed later the same year, marking them as one of Brazil's more prolific new black metal voices.

Avuytor is a black metal project from Ubá, Minas Gerais, Brazil, formed in 2021. Extraordinarily prolific for a relatively new band, they have released a string of albums on Bandcamp including The Black Age, Adffectus Tenebris, Transcedental, and Gólgota – O Lugar da Caveira, exploring dark and spiritual themes across a body of underground raw black metal.
