Horrendity is a two-headed death/grind project orbiting the Maximum Violence Productions stable in Fortaleza, the sun-baked capital of Ceará that has quietly become one of the most prolific outposts of extreme music in Brazil's Nordeste. Carrah Sales handles the brunt of the instrumentation, with Barroso Serra co-writing and overseeing the drum programming, recording, mixing and mastering at the same Fortaleza studio that has incubated a small army of regional brutes. That DIY chain of custody, from riff to master, is audible in everything they release: blown-out, putrid, deliberately ugly, more concerned with conveying nausea than fidelity. The 2019 single 'Horrendous Mastigation,' followed in 2020 by 'Blood Horror,' lays out the band's gospel in unmistakable terms, with song-titles that read like discarded VHS sleeves and a sound that splits the difference between Carcass-school carcinology, early Mortician sludge, and the slime-streaked goregrind that flourishes in the same Maximum Violence orbit as labelmates Worms, Coffin World and Sheol. Where the more established Ceará death pioneers (Obskure foremost among them) leaned technical, Horrendity heads in the opposite direction, embracing a primitive, mid-paced churn with sudden grind-blast eruptions and pitched-down vocals that gurgle out of the mix rather than ride above it. The aesthetic, pulpy horror iconography, autopsy-room artwork, song-cycles built around bodily ruin, signals an allegiance to the lineage of Repulsion, General Surgery and Haemorrhage, filtered through the very specifically Brazilian habit of treating extremity as a workshop project: built at home, pressed in tiny runs, traded with whoever in São Paulo, Belo Horizonte or Pôrto Alegre is willing to listen. It is unglamorous, unhurried, and entirely uninterested in scale; in that, it is exactly what Fortaleza's underground does best.
