God of Carnage

God of Carnage are one of the few committed death metal bands working out of Mato Grosso do Sul, a state more often associated with sertanejo and Pantanal-region folk traditions than with extreme music, and their existence in Campo Grande has made them a fixture of the local Obscure Fest circuit alongside fellow MS bands Haze and Enterrado. The band began in 2012 and has cycled through several lineups before settling into its current formation of vocalist and guitarist Herbert Mesquita, guitarists Marcos Lima and Augusto, bassist Higor Vinícius, and drummer Felipe Lourenço (with Flávio also documented as a recent drummer in coverage from regional outlets like Whiplash.Net and Campo Grande News). Their early output came in two 2017 releases, the Red Light demo and the Necrofilia EP, before the 2019 single Faminto Pela Morte signaled a sharper, more deliberately old-school direction. That trajectory culminated in the 2022 full-length Prólogo da Morte, recorded, mixed, and mastered at Nightless Records across 2019 and 2020 under co-production by Alex Miranda and the band, and issued physically through São Paulo's Mutilation Productions with digital distribution via Underground Voice Extreme Music. The album's thirteen tracks, including Help! Brother?, Máquina de Tortura, Palácio de Crânios, Desejo Canibal, and Festim de Vermes, lean into the band's stated obsession with serial-killer case studies and the broader question of human atrocity, set to riffing that openly cites Cannibal Corpse and Deicide while keeping enough Sabbath weight to feel rooted. They sing in Portuguese, a deliberate choice that anchors the project firmly in the regional underground.
