Extermínio

Formed in 2024 in São José dos Campos, an industrial city in the Vale do Paraíba region of inland São Paulo state, Extermínio is a three-piece war metal unit cut from the same blackened cloth as the Brazilian extreme metal pioneers that came before them. The trio comprises Bretas on vocals and bass, Heitor on guitar, and Luiz behind the kit, a stripped-down lineup that mirrors the lean, ferocious configurations favored by the godfathers of the style. Their music sits firmly in the black/death continuum that Brazil effectively invented in the mid-1980s, drawing direct lineage to Belo Horizonte's Holocausto, whose 1987 debut Campo de Extermínio is widely cited as the first true war metal record, and to Sarcófago's primitive, blast-driven assault. The Canadian war metal axis of Blasphemy and Conqueror also looms large in the band's sonic vocabulary: down-tuned, bestial riffing, machine-gun blastbeats, and vocals that emerge as gnarled, distorted bellows rather than articulated screams. Lyrically the band trades in the genre's foundational obsessions, war and death, themes long encoded into Brazilian extreme metal since the days when Sepultura, Mutilator and Vulcano were trading tapes through the Belo Horizonte and São Paulo undergrounds. The band's material has surfaced through their official SoundCloud channel under the handle exterminioband, and they are catalogued on Encyclopaedia Metallum as an active unsigned project. They take their place in a Vale do Paraíba underground that has long punched above its weight, sitting alongside São José dos Campos crust/grind contemporaries like Manger Cadavre? and the Privada Distro orbit, though Extermínio's vector is darker, more ritualistic, and unambiguously rooted in the bestial wing of Brazilian extreme metal.
