Draugrakr

Draugrakr is a one-man black metal project working out of Natal, the coastal capital of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil's northeast. The band's name borrows from Old Norse vocabulary - draugr being the undead revenant of Scandinavian saga tradition - placing the project squarely within the long-running second-wave black metal aesthetic that draws on northern European cold-climate imagery from a tropical Brazilian setting, a paradox common to South American black metal since the early 1990s. Draugrakr's catalog is anchored by Philosophie Des Chaos Und Der Zerstörung, a release titled in German that translates as 'Philosophy of Chaos and Destruction,' continuing the convention among orthodox black metal solo projects of using non-native languages to signal alignment with European source material. Track titles circulating on lyrics aggregators - including 'Nox Aeterna' and the pointedly titled 'The Day Burzum Killed Mayhem' - position the project openly in dialogue with the foundational Norwegian scene, referencing the 1993 killing of Mayhem guitarist Euronymous by Burzum's Varg Vikernes that became one of the genre's defining historical moments. Natal is far from Brazil's better-documented metal centers, and the northeast's black metal scene has historically been smaller and more dispersed than the activity in São Paulo or the south; the city's underground has nonetheless produced figures such as Rufino Hellfire of Shedim and Evil Empire who run small labels and studios that sustain the local extreme music ecosystem. Draugrakr operates within that low-circulation tradition, releasing material through self-publishing channels rather than established Brazilian black metal labels, and remains primarily known through digital streaming and underground tape-trading networks rather than mainstream metal press.
