DirtyFall

DirtyFall is the solo death metal project of Caio Terra, based in Brasilia, Distrito Federal, working in an unambiguously old-school vein. Brasilia is an unusual city to make this kind of music in. Carved out of the cerrado in the late 1950s as Brazil's planned capital, it has none of the deep extreme-metal lineage of Belo Horizonte or Sao Paulo. The local underground that does exist has historically gathered around venues like Porao do Rock, which hosted early-generation acts including Sepultura in the 1980s, and small constellations of black, pagan, and death metal projects, Miasthenia and Vultos Vociferos among them, that have made the Federal District a quieter but persistent node of Brazilian extreme music. DirtyFall sits in that one-person-project tradition, with Caio Terra writing, recording, and releasing the material himself. The output is steady and discrete: short releases rather than sprawling full-lengths, distributed through Bandcamp and Apple Music and announced via his Instagram and Facebook channels under the @caiogtroficial handle. Tracks and EPs include 'In Noise We Trust,' 'Ecos da Loucura,' 'Sombras da Inquisicao,' the split 'Abyss of Faith/Universal Hate,' 'Chainsaw Rites,' 'Drowned in Lies,' and the 2024 single 'Tormento Divino.' The Portuguese-language titles deal in inquisition, divine torment, and madness, themes that connect DirtyFall both to the lyrical heritage of early Brazilian death and thrash and to the country's broader history of anti-clerical extreme metal. Sonically the project sticks to a basic, riff-forward, decidedly unpolished version of the form, the kind of one-man-band death metal that proliferated globally after digital tools made home recording trivial but that here still draws on the rougher textures of the Brazilian underground rather than chasing any contemporary scene. DirtyFall is a working catalog rather than a finished statement, with new material appearing on a regular release cadence.
