Cruciate

Cruciate emerged in 2024 from an improvised jam between three musicians in Florianópolis, the island capital of Santa Catarina, and quickly became one of the more visible new names in southern Brazil's death metal underground. The trio - Renan on drums, Rubia on bass, and Vinizin on guitar - built their sound around an unfashionable set of reference points: the cavernous murk of Autopsy, the proto-death primitivism of Mythic and Derketa, the tank-tread weight of Bolt Thrower, and the buzzsaw guitar tone the Stockholm scene perfected on records by Entombed, Dismember and Bloodbath. To that vocabulary they add more recent touchstones in the same lineage, including Vallenfyre and the all-female Brazilian thrash/death outfit Crypta, locating themselves squarely within a continuum of bands who treat death metal as a rhythmic and tonal art rather than a technical contest. Their live circuit reflects the density of the Santa Catarina extreme metal scene: appearances at Jingle Hell in Florianópolis, the Otacílio Rock Fest, the Noite Abissal Fest alongside Impurge and Unsighter, and Matinê Gore! events at venues like Bro Cave Pub and Haôma Baixo Centro Bar have placed them on bills with most of the active death and grind acts in the region. Recording work on their debut full-length, Cruciate Ligament of Atlas - a title that nods openly to anatomy as iconography in the Carcass tradition - has been underway through 2025, with the band trickling out live footage and previews via their Instagram and the Cujo Death YouTube channel. For a band barely a year past its founding jam, Cruciate has already built a reputation that points back to the deepest roots of the genre rather than chasing whatever the algorithm is rewarding this season.
