Carniça

Among the wave of Brazilian goregrind acts that erupted out of the São Paulo underground in the early 2020s, Carniça may be one of the most committed to the genre's filthiest, most uncompromising traditions. Assembled in 2021 by four musicians operating under deliberately ghoulish aliases — Zé Carniça on guitar and pitch-shifted regurgitations, Chico Defunto on lead guitar, Tonho Coveiro on bass, and Jão Tripa-Seca behind the kit — the band built its identity around old-school splatter aesthetics, drawing a direct line from the early Carcass blueprint while channeling the relentless propulsion of Napalm Death and the carnival-of-gore sensibility of Exhumed. Their 2023 debut, the eleven-track LP Exhumed Corpse, served as a calling card: pitched-down vocals, blast beats with no breathing room, and riffs sharpened to a scalpel's edge, all wrapped in the no-nonsense, hatred-fueled presentation that has defined the new global goregrind crop. The record arrived through São Paulo's Rotten Foetus Records — a label run out of Guarulhos that has become a hub for the city's brutal-and-bloody output — and a Brazilian cassette pressing followed via BRC30 Productions. From there, Carniça's profile widened quickly inside the international circuit. The 2024 EP Cadaverous Putrefaction condensed the band's strengths into five tracks of pure splatter, and that same year they appeared on the four-way split alongside Switzerland's Fetophagia, the UK's Flax, and fellow Brazilians Necro Pathologic Tumor, a release cited by underground press as one of the year's most putrid documents. Live, they were part of São Paulo's More Gore Than festival, sharing the bill with Rot, Subcut, Trachoma, and other long-running names in the city's grind scene. The band announced their dissolution in 2025, ending a short but prolific run that left behind one of the more cohesive goregrind catalogs to emerge from Brazil in the decade.
