Cães de Guarda — Portuguese for Guard Dogs — operate out of Brasília, the planned modernist capital whose grid of superquadras and government ministries has long sat in awkward tension with the abrasive underground that fills its satellite cities and rock dives. The band's recorded activity stretches from 2016 forward, placing them squarely in the current generation of Distrito Federal extreme acts that have kept the local thrash and crossover tradition alive in the wake of older DF lifers like D.F.C. (Distrito Federal Caos), formed in 1993 and still the touchstone for the city's hardcore-thrash crossover, and Violator, the Brasília-bred outfit that became one of the most internationally visible names of the post-millennium Brazilian thrash revival. Cães de Guarda's death-tinged thrash places them in a slightly grittier corner of that ecosystem — less neo-classic Bay Area homage, more the kind of teeth-bared, politically suspicious dog-eat-dog attack that the band name openly telegraphs. Brasília's scene runs on small DIY festivals, underground sessions, and venues across the satellite cities of Taguatinga, Ceilândia, and Gama, and Cães de Guarda have surfaced on multi-band underground bills like the Sessions series that local promoters use to cycle DF bands through tight, sweaty rooms.
