Anopheles is a death metal band from Rio de Janeiro with roots going back to the mid-1990s Brazilian extreme metal scene. The band recorded their foundational release "Abstention of Life" in May 1995 at Estúdio Manhatan in Rio de Janeiro, an album that has since circulated among collectors of rare Brazilian demo recordings. Their lyrical themes deal with agony, suffering, and the darker dimensions of humanity.
