Rooted in the death metal world before pivoting toward Black Sabbath-worship and psychedelic stoner rock, Octopus Head — originally called Octopus from 2012 — developed a dense sound that threads doom heaviness through progressive and psychedelic textures across releases like Neptune and the three-track Jahaz. Their live album Depressed, but Alive on Abraxas Records captures the raw energy of their catalog, while the 2018 single "Noonday Demon" — inspired by Andrew Solomon's book on depression — showcased the band at their most thematically and sonically focused.
Old Quasar draw from the fuzz-heavy well of Black Sabbath and Kyuss while working in a more reflective, introspective thread courtesy of vocalist and lyricist Daniel Vitório, whose lyrics take cues from Henry Thoreau's writing. Their self-titled debut, a five-track EP recorded in a single weekend at Casa 39 studio, establishes a dense, doom-tinged stoner sound.
Old Stove cook up a thick, fuzz-coated brand of stoner rock powered by the guitar and vocals of Gabriel Freitas, with Lucas Braga on bass and Murilo Costa on drums locking in a heavy, desert-scorched groove. Their 2015 debut album #1 opened with the slow-burning "Place Pigalle" and showcased a band clearly schooled in the low-slung psychedelia of the genre's American forebears.
Orate are a stoner/grunge outfit from Santiago, Chile who have been active since 2004, drawing on grunge, indie rock, and stoner influences in their songwriting. They released a self-titled debut in 2004 and returned over a decade later with El Ave Madrina in 2017, an eight-track album that leans into hazy, groove-driven rock with Spanish-language lyrics.
