Mundo di Merda — Portuguese for roughly 'world of shit' — operate in the murky crossover territory where Brazilian black metal collides with hardcore punk and crust, a stylistic intersection that has been a quietly persistent feature of the country's underground since the 1990s. The name itself signals the project's ideological frame: this is metal as nihilist commentary, working in the same registers of disgust and contempt that have animated Brazilian extreme music from Ratos de Porão's punk broadsides through Sarcófago's first-wave black metal venom. The crossover-hardcore-black-metal axis they inhabit is a recognizable Brazilian phenomenon, shaped by a generation of musicians who grew up moving fluidly between hardcore matinees and black metal basement gigs, and who came to see the boundaries between the two as artificial. Bands in this space tend to favor the rawest possible production — boombox demos, blown-out cassette dubs, the kind of fidelity that turns guitars into a single grey wall of noise — and the politics tend to run anti-everything, less corpsepaint occultism than scorched-earth social rage.
