Lusayfer

Lusayfer is a one-man melodic black metal project working out of Capinzal, a small town on the Rio do Peixe in interior Santa Catarina, far from the better-known Catarinense metal hubs of Florianopolis and Joinville. The project's existence is itself a quiet statement about how Brazil's southern black metal underground has spread beyond its early coastal strongholds into the agricultural and lumber towns of the Meio-Oeste, where bedroom black metal increasingly thrives on home recording and direct-to-Bandcamp distribution. Lusayfer's two demos, Filhos da Noite (2020) and Nas Sombras Da Morte (2022), inscribe the project firmly within the lineage of Brazilian solitary black metal that traces back through the late-1990s Mystifier/Mutilator/Sarcofago triangulation and the more recent wave of regional one-man acts that proliferated across Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Parana in the 2010s. The Portuguese-language titles and the deliberate retention of a melodic edge place the project in dialogue with the southern Brazilian strand of black metal that has long embraced regional language, pagan/telluric imagery and a less Scandinavian, more atmospheric approach than what one hears from Sao Paulo's orthodox cults. With releases pacing roughly every two years and a recording approach typical of the rural-southern bedroom scene, Lusayfer represents the quieter, slower-burning side of Catarinense extreme metal: melodic, isolated, and stubbornly committed to working out a personal black metal language inside a town most of the country has never heard of.
