Lucyfuzz emerge from São Paulo, a megalopolis that has quietly become one of the southern hemisphere's most fertile breeding grounds for sludge and doom. They arrived in 2025 with Maldita Perdição, an eight-track debut sung entirely in Portuguese — song titles like Mente Falha, Manto Negro, and Inferno Sombrio frame the record as a descent through self-ruin rather than the English-language cosmic dread favored by many of their peers. That choice anchors them firmly in the lineage of Brazilian bands who insist heaviness translates better through their own tongue, a tradition reaching back through the early-2000s underground that ran parallel to the Sepultura/Krisiun thrash-and-death mainstream. Stylistically, Lucyfuzz operate in the same São Paulo orbit as Jupiterian, the Transcending Obscurity-signed atmospheric sludge/doom outfit who set the template for the city's modern scene, and Saturndust, whose experimental doom/sludge work on labels like Abraxas has drawn international attention.
