Korözyon

Korözyon emerged from Belo Horizonte, the Minas Gerais capital that holds an almost mythic status in global extreme metal as the city that produced Sepultura, Sarcófago, Overdose, Chakal, Mutilator and the entire ecosystem of bands clustered around Cogumelo Records throughout the 1980s. By the time Korözyon were active, the BH scene had matured into a multi-generational network where the foundational thrash/death/black templates established by those first-wave bands had splintered into countless directions — and groove metal, with its mid-tempo Pantera-derived swing and Sepultura's own Chaos A.D.-era post-thrash vocabulary, became a particularly natural extension for mineiro bands looking to reconcile the city's brutal heritage with the heavier, slower currents of the 1990s and 2000s. Korözyon worked in that groove-driven space, sharing aesthetic ground with paulistano groove-thrash peers like Claustrofobia and the broader Brazilian post-thrash cohort while drawing on the rawer mineiro tradition of their hometown. Belo Horizonte's metal scene is uniquely concentrated geographically — venues like Mister Rock and Estádio Bar have long served as gathering points, and the legacy of the Cogumelo store on Rua Rio de Janeiro still anchors the underground — so a band like Korözyon would have moved through a tight network of musicians where members regularly cycled between projects. The umlaut in the name signals the heavy/thrash heritage they drew from (a stylistic flourish lifted from Motörhead and Mötley Crüe and adopted by countless metal bands as shorthand for heaviness), and their split-up status fits the typical arc of mineiro underground bands: intense activity within a small, dedicated scene followed by dissolution as members move on to new configurations within Belo Horizonte's deep talent pool.
