Kodorah

Kodorah operate within São Paulo's long and stylistically diverse black metal underground — a scene whose history runs from the proto-black filth of mid-1980s Vulcano and Sarcófago (the latter from Belo Horizonte but a defining influence on every paulistano black metal band that followed) through the second-wave-influenced acts that emerged in the 1990s and into the contemporary cohort working in venues like Hangar 110 and the smaller rooms of Vila Madalena. São Paulo's black metal scene is unusual within Latin American extreme metal for its sheer density and stylistic spread: the city sustains everything from raw, Mütiilation-styled depressive cells to ambient and atmospheric projects, from war-metal-adjacent bestial outfits to the more orthodox second-wave revivalists who dominate the bar circuit. Kodorah sit somewhere within that spectrum, sharing geographic ground with active paulistano black metal acts like Creptum, Vobiscum Inferni, Vazio and the broader network of bands that tape-trade and split-release through the small São Paulo black metal labels still operating in the wake of the city's tape-era infrastructure. The Brazilian black metal map remains anchored by three primary nodes — São Paulo, the Minas Gerais axis around Belo Horizonte, and the Bahian scene that produced Mystifier and Headhunter D.C. — and the paulistano contingent has historically been the most cosmopolitan, absorbing Norwegian, French and Polish influences more readily than the Sarcófago-descended Minas tradition. Kodorah carry that lineage forward as one cell within a much larger paulistano black metal community that continues to operate well below the radar of mainstream Brazilian music coverage.
