Insurreição operated out of São Bernardo do Campo, the industrial heart of the Grande ABC region just south of São Paulo's city limits — a place whose musical history is inseparable from its working-class identity. The ABC paulista, the cluster of municipalities anchored by Santo André, São Bernardo and São Caetano, became Brazil's most intense punk hub in the late 1970s and early 1980s precisely because it was the country's auto-industry epicentre: car plants, metalworker unions, strikes, factory shifts, and the same conditions of unemployment and political pressure that birthed punk in Birmingham and Detroit. Bands like Olho Seco, Ratos de Porão and Cólera carved that identity in noise, and the territory's later metal-leaning underground absorbed all of it. Insurreição's hybrid thrash and horror punk approach — a combination that places them in the lineage of bands willing to braid Misfits-derived ghoulish theatre with Sarcófago-inflected thrash brutality — fits the ABC scene's pluralism, where punk, hardcore, crust and thrash bills routinely shared the same union halls and squat venues. The Brazilian horror punk tradition, kept alive by acts like Zumbis do Espaço and the wider scene around São Paulo's MZK circuit, gave bands like Insurreição a ready-made aesthetic vocabulary: macabre imagery, blunt social anger, and a refusal to separate political revolt from the cartoon menace of B-movie horror. Their now-dissolved status places them alongside the dozens of paulista underground projects that burned bright through a handful of years of shows and recordings before dissolving back into the scene's deep talent pool, where members typically resurface in new bands within months. The name itself — Insurreição, insurrection — telegraphs everything the ABC tradition is built on.
