Inside War

Active since 2009, Inside War belongs to the post-revival generation of São Paulo thrash — the cohort of bands that came up after the second wave of Brazilian thrash had been canonised by Korzus, Violator, and the global breakout of Nervosa, and that took the genre as a living vocabulary rather than a museum piece. São Paulo is the country's thrash capital by sheer mass: it is the city that produced Dorsal Atlântica's pivot from punk to thrash in the early 1980s, sustained MX and Attomica through the genre's lean years, and gave Nervosa their initial scene footing. Inside War sits in that current. The classic SP thrash template — sharp, tight-wristed riffing, snare-driven gallops, shouted aggression with a hardcore edge — has always been less about Bay Area cleanliness and more about a Sarcófago-inflected ferocity, and the bands of Inside War's generation lean into that distinctly Brazilian rawness. The 2009-onwards timing matters: it places them inside the same regional wave that revived interest in old-school thrash globally, when bands across São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Curitiba began circling back to the Schizo-era aesthetic with renewed intent. They operate in the same gig ecosystem as Hellbringer, Brutalik, and the broader paulista thrash underground — Inferno Club shows, Sesc bills, and the small venues that have always kept the scene functioning. With more than a decade and a half of activity, Inside War has earned the kind of longevity that, in the São Paulo underground, is itself a marker of seriousness: an unsigned thrash band only stays running this long because the people in it refuse to let it stop.
