Ignus

Ignus formed in Bogotá in 2014, slotting into a Colombian heavy rock scene that has spent the past three decades insisting - against the country's external reputation - that classic heavy metal and hard rock are as integral to its identity as cumbia or vallenato. The capital's metal community is older than most outsiders realise: Bogotá hosted formative thrash and death acts like Agony, Masacre and Reencarnacion in the late eighties, and the Rock al Parque festival, running since 1995, made the city one of the largest open-air metal stages in Latin America. Ignus belong to a younger generation that grew up on those festivals and on the deep classic-rock catalogue that survives in Bogotá's bar circuit, where rooms in La Candelaria, Chapinero and the southern stretches of the city still book bands trafficking in 1970s-rooted hard rock and 1980s NWOBHM. Their sound reflects that lineage: lead-guitar-forward songwriting with strong vocal melodies, midpaced grooves more indebted to the Deep Purple/Rainbow/Dio template than to extreme metal, and a willingness to colour the edges with stoner and progressive touches without abandoning the central hard-rock chassis. The bilingual flexibility of the Bogotá scene - sets often slide between Spanish and English depending on venue and audience - is part of the territory, as is the practical reality that Colombian rock bands tend to be lifers, building reputations slowly over a decade or more rather than via algorithmic breakthroughs. Ignus operate squarely inside that long-game tradition, a heavy-rock unit working a market that values musicianship and durability above novelty.
