Feto

Feto are a long-running underground outfit from Jaguarão, a small border town in the far south of Rio Grande do Sul, who have been self-styling their racket as "old school drunk metal" since the band coalesced in 1992. The original lineup was assembled by Zur Rechts, Bones, and Annt, three friends bonded as much by cheap booze and graveyards as by an obsession with the first wave of Brazilian extreme metal: Sarcófago, early Vulcano, Holocausto, the kind of bestial filth that came down from Belo Horizonte in the late 1980s. Stormtrooper joined on second guitar in 1998, the year the group finally captured their hostile, hangover-soaked sound on the "Drunk Metal" demo, an unvarnished slab of raw blackened thrash drenched in alcohol worship. A long hiatus followed when Bones and Zur Rechts relocated out of Jaguarão, though the four kept in touch and eventually reconvened in January 2010, adding Gelydus to the lineup and returning to active duty. The second phase of Feto has been considerably more prolific, with the rehearsal-quality live document "Drunkult Alive" and its companion "Drunkult Alive - The First Drunkness" both surfacing through Brazilian underground channels and getting catalogued on Encyclopaedia Metallum, alongside further homebrewed releases like "Total Raw Alcoholokaust Rehearsal" and "Hangover over Graveyards." Their lyrical territory rarely strays from the bottle, the cemetery, and ritual debauchery, and live sets typically include reverent, sloppy covers of Mayhem's "Deathcrush" and Venom's "Countess Bathory" tracked direct from rehearsal-room tape. Operating well outside the Porto Alegre metropolitan circuit, the band is emblematic of the deep-interior gaucho underground that orbits labels and DIY imprints like the Brazilian Ritual Records circle, keeping the lo-fi, drunken Sarcófago lineage alive in a city most metalheads cannot find on a map.
