Evil Devastation

Evil Devastation is a black metal act operating out of Bahia in northeastern Brazil, the same coastal state that birthed first-wave occult pioneers Mystifier and Malefactor in Salvador at the close of the 1980s. The project surfaced publicly in February 2023 with the five-track release Invocando a Maldita Devastação, issued through Bandcamp without label intermediary in keeping with the self-released ethos that has long defined Brazil's underground black metal cells. The tracklist - Senhores Sombrios, Maligna Era, Triumphant Warlord, Kill by Satan, and Guerra Negra e o Imperio do Mal - sketches out the band's lyrical preoccupations clearly enough: dark lords, satanic militancy, and the sort of warlike black metal triumphalism that Brazilian extremists have championed since Sarcofago drew the blueprint in the mid-1980s. The mix of Portuguese and English titles is itself characteristic of the Bahian extreme scene, which has always traded comfortably between vernacular regional identity and the universal lingua franca of underground metal. Bahia's black metal lineage runs deep - from Mystifier's Wicca and Goetia albums on Osmose to the broader Salvador circle documented across decades of zines and the Bahia Rock Machine blog - and Evil Devastation represents a continuation of that tradition rather than a break from it, deploying raw production values and direct, declarative songcraft rather than the polish and atmosphere favored by southern Brazilian post-black acts. The band remains underground and largely uncovered by international press, but the Bandcamp release stands as documented evidence of an active project committed to keeping Bahia's blasphemous black metal current flowing into the 2020s.
