Edificador

Edificador is an unblack metal band from Valença in the interior of Rio de Janeiro state, formed in mid-2008 and counted among the more prolific names in Brazil's underground Christian black metal circuit. Operating in the same scriptural-blackened vein that produced South American touchstones across Brazil's evangelical metal underground, Edificador planted its flag early with a pair of EPs that would later define its sound: 'Crucial Aniquilação' (2010) and 'Monotonia Mundana' (2011), tremolo-driven and lo-fi affairs that paired raw second-wave aesthetics with explicitly Christian lyrical confrontation. Those two EPs were later compiled and reissued as 'Vale da Sombra da Morte' (Valley of the Shadow of Death), a twelve-track collection released through Blackened Label Records in 2021 that gathered tracks such as 'Pacto Quebrado,' 'Maldição Hereditária,' 'Calamidade Pagã,' 'Nova Ordem Congregada,' 'Sacrifício pelo Homem' and 'Força Suprema Universal.' The band's first proper full-length, 'The Land of Shadows,' arrived independently in April 2018 and saw a CD pressing through Lament Records the following month, leaning into doctrinal themes and worship-charged passages typified by tracks like 'On the Hill.' Catalogued in the Encyclopaedia Metallum as a Black Metal act with Christian-themed lyrics and most recently associated with Eternal Records, Edificador has remained active across more than a decade and a half from its hill-town base in the Paraíba do Sul valley, contributing a distinctly Brazilian chapter to a niche scene that has otherwise been dominated by Scandinavian and North American acts.
