Demonabyzz

Demonabyzz operate out of Cassino, the windswept district of Rio Grande that fronts the longest uninterrupted beach in the world — a 254-kilometre stretch of dunes, shipwrecks and migratory bird colonies on the southern lip of Rio Grande do Sul. That geography matters: the band's music carries the same sense of slow corrosion and saline weight as the coast they come from, all fuzz-saturated low end and reverb that seems to disperse into open air rather than rebound off walls. They formed within the southern Brazilian doom/stoner underground that has slowly thickened over the last decade, a current best documented by Portuguese-language fanzines and compilation projects like the 51-track Trip to Brazil stoner/doom collection that surveyed the national scene in 2022 — the same year Demonabyzz dropped their self-titled debut LP. That record, archived and reposted by the long-running Brazilian blog Metal Brazuca, is the band's calling card. Across four tracks — Night Creatures, High With Fuzz, Black Pyramids and Noise Kvlt Ritual — the band weld traditional doom's funeral pacing to the saturation-worship of stoner metal, with song titles that read like a manifesto: occult horror, weed haze, Lovecraftian geometry, lo-fi ritual. The 'Kvlt' in the closing cut is a wink toward black metal aesthetics without the genre itself, the kind of cross-pollination common to Rio Grande do Sul's extreme underground, which has produced everything from Krisiun's lineage of speed-obsessed death metal out of Ijuí to a thriving doom scene scattered through Porto Alegre and Pelotas. Demonabyzz sit in that broader gaucho extreme-metal tradition while keeping their feet planted in Cassino's specific isolation — a band that sounds like the gulf between the Pampas and the South Atlantic, played at half-speed and double-volume.
