Death Crush in Hell

Death Crush in Hell operate from Marília, an interior city in São Paulo state best known for its agricultural-industrial economy and not for extreme metal, which is exactly the kind of unlikely setting that has historically produced some of Brazil's most uncompromising underground bands. Working in raw, anti-clerical black metal, the project sits in the long bloodline that runs from Mystifier, Sarcófago and Vulcano through the regional satanic and blasphemous black metal undergrounds that have always existed parallel to São Paulo's better-documented thrash and death metal scenes. Their stated discography centres on two long-players: 'Destrua a Religião' (2015), a manifesto-titled record opening with an instrumental Intro before driving into the title track and the venomous 'Pedófilos Ladrões Imundos,' an unambiguous swipe at clerical corruption that is more or less a recurring obsession of Brazilian black metal; and 'Soberana Escuridão' (2016), which expands on the same themes through the title cut, 'Fuck Religion' and the necro-themed 'Demônios No Cemitério.' The latter two tracks later resurfaced on digital streaming compilations distributed through Amazon Music and other platforms in 2024, giving the band a small second life beyond the CD-R and tape circuit. Lyrically the band keeps to Portuguese for the conceptual centrepieces and English for the most direct attacks, a code-switching tactic common among Brazilian black metal acts who want regional resonance and international reach at once. Stylistically they belong to the second-wave influenced, lo-fi current of the Brazilian underground rather than to any war-metal or melodic strand. Marília itself remains a peripheral node in the wider Paulista metal map, and Death Crush in Hell's persistence as an active unit there is consistent with the broader pattern of interior-São Paulo extreme metal bands operating largely outside the capital's circuit.
