Dark Misanthropy

Belo Horizonte's contribution to international black metal has always run dark and cold, from the early ferocity of Sarcófago and Mystifier to a present-day undercurrent of one-person projects that keep the city's misanthropic lineage breathing. Dark Misanthropy belongs squarely to that latter tradition. Formed in 2020 as the solo vehicle of the musician known only as Darkned Werewolf, the project handles every guitar, bass line, drum pattern, vocal and lyric in-house, a closed-circuit method that has come to define a great deal of Brazilian raw black metal in the 2020s. The debut full-length, B.D.S.M., arrived in 2021 as a self-released seven-song statement, leaning into the abrasive, lo-fi orthodoxy that values atmosphere over polish and intent over instrumental flash. Four years later the project returned with Beyond the Gateways of the Existence, issued on November 7, 2025 and tracked across eleven songs that include 'The Traveler', 'Eternal Night', 'Worms of Idolatry', 'Varcolac', 'The Aeon of Supreme Darkness', 'Apostasy', 'Burning the Throne of Creation', 'Waltz of Extermination', and 'There Is Only Rest in Death', plus a closing cover of the German classic 'Misanthrop'. The track list reads like a small map of the genre's classical preoccupations — the journey, the night, parasitic faith, slavic folklore, the supremacy of darkness, the rejection of creation — and slots Dark Misanthropy comfortably into a Minas Gerais black metal continuum that has rarely needed more than a single committed mind and a recording rig to produce work of conviction. The project remains underground by design, distributed primarily through digital channels and small-press blogs that have long served as Brazil's de facto black metal distribution network.
