Bloody Lifeless Castle

Bloody Lifeless Castle operate out of Duque de Caxias, the sprawling industrial city on the northern edge of Rio de Janeiro's metropolitan area that has quietly become one of the most active corners of the Brazilian black metal underground — a working-class lineage that runs through long-standing locals like Impacto Profano, Velho Black Metal, and Obscure Relic. Tracked at Albergue do Rock, a small Caxias studio that has served as a default rehearsal-and-recording hub for the region's raw black metal acts, the trio's 2020 EP 'Count of Shadows' introduced the project's lineup: vocalist Rodrigo 'Chuck,' multi-instrumentalist Deoarsprofanum handling guitar and bass, and drummer T. Splatter. The EP leans into the gothic, castle-haunting strain of black metal — keyboard washes, mid-paced tremolo, a deliberately murky production aesthetic — that has thrived in the post-Mütiilation Brazilian scene and intersects with the broader vampiric/dungeon black wave that found a wider international audience that same year. They sit comfortably in that lineage of Rio black metal that has never chased polish, treating limitations as part of the texture rather than a problem to engineer around. There is little public-facing infrastructure around the band — no significant label presence, no touring footprint to speak of — which is itself the point: Bloody Lifeless Castle exists for the small circuit of Caxias and Baixada Fluminense traders, fanzine readers, and Bandcamp diggers who have always sustained Brazil's underground without needing the rest of the world to notice.
