Blood Corrosion

Blood Corrosion emerged in 2016 from the ashes of Darkoma, a project that splintered in the small Rio Grande do Sul city of Camaquã before regrouping under a name its founders felt was both punchier and more aggressive on the tongue. Guitarists Leonardo Duarte and Adriel Medeiros anchored the new lineup alongside vocalist João Guilherme, who handled the early sessions before stepping aside for Juliano Brose, whose harsher delivery pushed the band closer to the snarling, melodic death-thrash hybrid they had been chasing. Their first single, 'Abdication of the Soul,' was tracked in 2017 at Casa da Jade with producer Chicão Waskow — a name that crops up across the gaúcho underground — and posted to YouTube the following year, where it caught enough traction to be picked up by Onyx Alley, a Jacksonville, Florida community station with a soft spot for South American extreme metal. That airplay led to a deal with the small Brazilian imprint UKG Discos and a slot on the label's 'Rock Soldiers' compilation, modest milestones that nonetheless put Camaquã on the map of a region better known for the death and thrash legacies of nearby Porto Alegre. Their sound favors the European melodic death tradition — twin-guitar harmonies, mid-tempo grooves, Brose's bark riding over riffs built more for atmosphere than blunt force — but the Brazilian thrash instincts that grew out of bands like Korzus and Dorsal Atlântica still leak into the rhythm work. They remain a regional act in the truest sense, the kind of band that defines a scene without ever quite leaving it.
